Bones for Life^® Certification Program

We offer certification programs in Bones for Life^®. The initial workshops are traditionally offered as Segments I, II, and III, each three days in length. Each segment covers 30 unique movement processes. The general public is also invited to attend these beginning segments for their own health.

Learning objectives include:

• Become familiar with dynamic, springy pressure
• Organize alignment for optimal transmission of force
• Train coordination for pushing and pulling
• Learn how to provide safe laboratory experiences for anti-gravity challenges
• Develop strategies for safety and ways to work with vulnerable joints
• Inspire yourself and others to move
• Understand the impact of bone health on the individual and community

Each segment builds on the prior one, to cultivate a deeper and more thorough knowledge of the above learning objectives and more.

You can attend Segment I and then decide if you would like simply use the movements for your own personal health, or to continue along the certification track in order to incorporate the skills acquired into your existing health care practice. We offer significant discounts when repeating a segment!

Participants

• Health care professionals including physical and occupational therapists, massage therapists and body workers, physicians, chiropractors, nurses, social workers
• Fitness/wellness instructors such as yoga, dance, Feldenkrais^®, Pilates, personal trainers
• Anyone wishing to enhance their own health and movement throughout life

Becoming a Bones for Life^® Teacher

While some take a segment here or there to enhance their current skill level in their profession or for their personal health, others may wish to teach Bones for Life^® classes to the general public. There are several levels of training available. Basic Completion consists of taking the beginning three segments. After completing Basic, you can enter the teacher’s track which includes further training, mentoring, student teaching and a didactic workshop.

Accreditation
Our programs provide continuing education units in a variety of fields including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training. We are an approved provider for NCMBMT (The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork). Inquire for more details.

Benefits to training with ILCMA

We are committed to intimate training experiences. When registrations warrants, we will bring in an additional instructor. Over the course of several segments you will have the opportunity to study with any of our three trainers. The diversity of trainers with a small teacher/student ratio provides you with a rich learning experience.

In addition to the 20 hours per segment required for the core Bones for Life^® curriculum, we have added hours allowing for expansion in:

• Understanding bone anatomy and remodeling
• Current developments in osteoporosis
• Introducing the work to the public
• Formats for teaching public classes
• Demonstrations and problem solving for typical and challenging issues that students present
